Introducing: Nicki!

 Hi everyone! My name is Nicki. This blog is a place where I can share some of my thoughts and ideas with you. There will be more than one topic and everyone is welcome to comment on my posts.

If you're wondering more about who I am, I am a 38-year-old mother of 4 who is currently going to school for her bachelor's degree. It has been a long road to get here but I know at the end of the day it will all be worth it.  I want my kids to be proud of me and see that no matter the obstacles, your dreams can come true.

What am I going to school for? Accounting! I also want to get my Master's in Library Science. Yes, those may be two of the most boring majors and/or careers around, but those are my dreams. I'm on track to achieve those dreams in a few years and can't wait to cross those stages.

Workplace diversity

  Workplace diversity: what does this mean? It means to have a diverse workplace regarding race, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation, age, and education. There are probably a few more categories we could name, but you can look those up. Why is diversity important? Studies show that the more diverse your workplace is, the more profitable it is (Mckinsey.com). Also, the more diverse, the more your employees will show happiness with their work. Diversity isn’t easy. It needs to come from the top down. For much of history, white men were the ones on top. They were the ones who made the decisions about hiring and weren’t always open to diversity. Fortunately, things have gotten better.
